Review on Chokhi Dhani London
Chokhi Dhani is the first London outpost of the luxury hotel and restaurant group that first opened in India in 1990, situated in the Nine Elms area of Battersea. The restaurant is spread over two floors with a ground floor bar serving street food style dishes, while the more formal restaurant is situated upstairs with views of the River Thames. It features a lavish no-expense spared décor with a collection of bespoke artworks from India's acclaimed artisans, including Vivek K Agrawal, the curator, artist and mentor of the Indian Sculpture and Art Company, who created Chokhi Dhani's stunning two-ton 15ft bronze elephant. The lounge and bar also offers a variety of entertainment including dancers, magicians, palmists and henna artists.
Taking helm of the kitchen is Vishnu Natarajan, who previously plied his trade at the now closed Carom in Soho. Carefully crafted dishes kick off with recheado, baby squid stuffed with shrimps and king scallops or for meat fans khargosh, pulled slow cooked rabbit, bhaang and missi. From the tandoor grill order jumbo jhinga balchao, tiger prawns in the shell with Goan spices or you could choose one of their signature classic dishes such as venison biryani, dum pukht style in terracotta and wild mustard raita. Close the show in style with desserts like rose crème brûlée, honeycomb, balsamic, rose petal relish, meringue and khubhani or the chocolate sphere, pistachio moist cake, millet brittle and organic milk ice cream.
The comprehensive wine list is divided into new and old wine sections with options available by the glass, together with Indian-inspired cocktails like Jaipur Fizz, hibiscus infused tanqueray gin, lychee juice, lime and ginger beer over crushed ice.
