Review on Brigadiers
Having accumulated a galaxy of accolades from every quarter with Gymkhana, Hoppers, and Trishna, JKS Restaurants run by Jyotin, Karam and Sunaina Sethi opened Brigadiers in June 2018, their most ambitious venture yet it's set in the Bloomberg Arcade in the heart of the Square Mile. The inspiration for the name came from their grandfather, who was a Brigadier in the 4th Gurkha rifles and the army mess of bars in India where his military regiment would eat, drink and socialise.
There's a maze of rooms designed by Brady Williams featuring a central bar named Blighters where you can watch live sports, a smart fifty-pence piece shaped dining room decked out in red and grey with brass tones, paying homage to the history of the Brigadiers, with a large portrait of the Sethi's grandfather taking pride of place above the fireplace. A Tap Room towards the rear, with standing room only focuses on an ever changing menu of hand-picked beers. At the heart of the venue is The Pool Room complete with an 8ft Texan pool table, the room is finished with polished black and chrome façades, vintage sports posters and a leopard print carpet. It's home to a whisky vending machine and self-serve beer taps and can be hired out for private functions. Alongside all of this there's also two other private dining areas named The Kukri Room and The Bidi Room. An outside terrace is perfect for a relaxing drink when the weather is warm.
There's a vast crowd-pleasing menu kicking off with beer snacks and bitings such as cocktail ox cheek vindaloo samosas and prawn softshell crab and squid Telicherry fry and tomato pachadi. The rotisserie wood oven sends out dishes like sikandari kid goat shoulder, lacha parathas and lacha onions or you could opt for the Wagyu Seekh kebab anda kati rol. As a finale, consider the soft-serve ice cream sundaes like banana and yoghurt kulfi with fennel seed butterscotch and sweet pickled bananas and brown butter waffle.
To accompany the food there's champagne and punch fountains, a carefully compiled wine list, beers, rare whiskies and cocktails including some on tap.
