Review on Rovi
Acclaimed chef and restaurateur, Yotam Ottolenghi opened his latest restaurant Rovi in the heart of Fitzrovia in June 2018. His biggest venue yet, it joins his chain of Ottolenghi bistros and his well regarded Nopi restaurant in Soho. The smart interiors have been created by Alex Meitlis Architecture and Design, who were also responsible for the décor of Nopi. A dome-shaped room with an open kitchen towards the back, the room is dominated by the large oval cocktail bar seating sixteen. Decked out in natural materials including travertine stone, specially designed long bright red 40's inspired sofas and black chairs are set round pale oak wood tables.
Former Head Chef of Bruno Loubet's Grain Store leads the kitchen supported by group development chef, Calvin von Niebel and together they present a menu that focuses on vegetables, with the use of fermentation and cooking over fire. Produce is sourced from trusted suppliers for dishes along the lines of squid and lardo skewers, red pepper glaze and fennel salad or Tropea onions, whipped feta and green gazpacho. Mussels, cascabel oil and hay smoked Jersey royals can be served as a starter or a main course or you could opt for the beef carpaccio, artichoke and Crowdie. Desserts offer an enticing mix of flavours, witness beetroot and chocolate fondant, chilli and crème fraiche ice cream or there's an apricot clafoutis paired with fig ice cream.
To accompany the food there's a wine list that highlights renowned small producers from around the world with a focus on low intervention, together with a seasonal changing cocktail list.
