Review on Cora Pearl
The award winning team behind Kitty Fisher's in Mayfair's Shepherd Market, opened a second restaurant in July 2018 called Cora Pearl. Like its older sibling this one is also named after a notorious courtesan, 19th century Coral Pearl who started life in Covent Garden before moving to Paris. Located in an historic townhouse, it's laid out over two floors with a ground floor dining room and a downstairs cocktail bar with an open kitchen. It has a theatrical setting inspired by the courtesan's party-filled life, with dark wood polished tables set with rich emerald green banquettes, upholstered wall-panels, tarnished mirrors and vintage lighting.
Kitty Fisher's Head Chef George Barson, who has previously worked at esteemed establishments such as River Cottage, Dinner by Heston Blumenthal, Viajante, and Jamie Oliver's Fifteen will be leading the team in both kitchens. The menu has British and French influences along the lines of leek heart and smoked eel terrine or quail Caesar amongst the starters. Main courses move into the realms of cod and devilled crab or from the land a veal fillet with bordelaise and celeriac. Round things off with a chocolate ganache paired with malt ice cream or coffee, cardamom sponge and milk sorbet.
Cora Pearl's wine list looks to the Old World with a reserve list available by Coravin, together with cocktails such as Chaine d'Or, consisting of Quinquina, Chartreuse and lime, named after the four men who were responsible for Cora's infamous reputation.
