Review on Alchemilla
Alchemilla, the scientific name for the plant Lady's Mantle is set on busy Argyle street in the city centre of Glasgow. Owned by chef Rosie Healey, formerly of London's Ottolenghi, and Fergus McVicar of Glasgow's Tabac and Chinaskis, you know that you are onto a winner when the Guardian's restaurant critic, Jay Rayner declares that he had to use every ounce of his willpower to decline seconds. It has a Scandinavian vibe with lots of pale wood, a small bar where you can sit and eat and a large open plan kitchen.
The kitchen focuses on a regularly changing menu of incredibly fresh Mediterranean dishes designed for sharing. On the carte you could find shaved kohirabi, fennel herbs before moving on to the likes of octopus, potato and paprika or from the land, lamb leg, aubergine, tomato, yoghurt and dill. For a sweet-toothed finale there's hazelnut meringue, lemon curd and crème fraiche or panna cotta, burnt caramel and pine nut biscuit.
The wine list emphasises natural, organic and biodynamic bottles and there's also an inventive cocktail menu.
