Review on Ikatza Restaurant at Gran Meliá Victoria
Ikatza is the showpiece restaurant set within the luxury five-star Gran Meliá Victoria hotel in Palma, Mallorca. A spacious dining room with well-spaced tables set on a herringbone wood flooring, walls are also covered in wood and decorated with two large sets of silver knives, forks and spoons with the silver head of a Longhorn steer in the middle. However, everyone makes a beeline for their lovely terrace, where they can dine al fresco overlooking the palm-lined Paseo Marítimo and Palma's yacht filled harbour, with the stunning views of the Cathedral in the distance.
The kitchen serves traditional Basque dishes cooked on a modern grill with a focus on local and seasonal produce. A popular staring point is White Mendavia asparagus served with black truffle mayonnaise or there's foie gras with fig jelly. Other promising ideas include braised suckling lamb shoulder with carrots, peppers and tomato or from the sea, grilled Galician octopus paired with crushed crushed potato, smoked paprika and "Oli de Mallorca DO" olive oil. Finish with a classic Basque dessert of Goxua or chocolat fondant with vanilla ice cream.
To accompany the food, there's an extensive wine list that showcases predominantly Spanish vineyards.
