Review on Bife
Bife restaurant is situated on Middlesex Street in the heart of Aldgate, just a short stroll from Petticoat Lane Market. An Argentinean restaurant with a focus on steak, the concept comes from brothers Juan Pablo and Jose de Alzaa and their cousin Ricardo, who is the restaurant's master-griller. An open-kitchen takes centre stage. with dark wood tables and chairs alongside banquette seating, all set within a pretty jewel colour palette.
The menu offers the finest free-range, wet-aged Argentinean beef together with specialities from Córdoba, the home city of Jose and Juan Pablo. Why not start with a sticky slow roast belly of pork with light and crispy crackling served with caramelized onion or from the sea there's calamari Romana, lightly-battered and fried with lemon and garlic mayo. Follow on with a choice of succulent steaks cooked on the charcoal grill or maybe opt for a Choripan, an Argentine style chorizo sandwich with rocket salad, roasted pepper, chimimayo and fries. When it comes to desserts you might see strawberry cheese cake or crepes with Nutella, otherwise there's a cheeseboard.
The wine list has been carefully selected emphasising bottles from Argentina with a strong focus on Malbec, and there's also an excellent gin menu.
