Review on Patara
Patara, an upmarket chain of Thai restaurants opened their seventh venue in the heart of Wimbledon village in South West London. It has already established siblings in Hampstead, Fitzrovia, Soho, Oxford Circus, Knightsbridge and South Kensington. Patara means gracious lady and derives its name from restaurateur Khun Patara Sila-On who, for the past 30 years has overseen the opening of Patara's restaurants worldwide.
A delightful neighbourhood restaurant with spacious interiors designed by Superfutures with intricate Thai carvings and decorative motifs, it has an 80-cover dining room, as well as a casual lunchtime Yum Bar, and when the weather is warm an outdoor terrace is perfect for al fresco meals.
Diners can expect exquisite contemporary Thai dishes artistically displayed on the plate in the shape of chor muang, handcrafted lilac dumplings with caramelised chicken and peanut, finished with coconut cream. Among the curries you might opt for the lamb shank massaman, coconut milk braised lamb in a mild homemade curry of warm spices, garnished with almond and pickled onion or from the sea there's lightly battered sea bass, glazed with a tangy lemongrass and tamarind sauce, and finished with crispy shallot and fried onion. When it comes to desserts enjoy a home-made Thai mango cheese cake with madagascan vanilla ice cream or khaneow mamuang, a traditional Thai dessert of fragrant Thai mango with sweet sticky rice.
To accompany the dishes there's a carefully compiled wine list as well as signature cocktails.
