Review on Restaurante Melassa
An adults-only boutique property, the Melbeach Hotel & Spa is located steps from the beach in the tranquil resort of Canyamel in northeast Mallorca. The hotel's gastronomic flagship is the Melassa restaurant, a sleekly designed room decked out in pale wood and neutral colours, offering panoramic sea views from floor to ceiling windows. Tables are well laid with crisp linen and decorated with fresh flowers, and there's also al fresco dining on the terrace, overlooking the infinity pool and the Mediterranean Sea beyond.
It's a fitting setting for talented chef David Moreno, who earned his culinary stripes as Head Chef at the Michelin-starred Restaurante Andreu Genestra in Capdepera. The kitchen sends out artistically displayed seasonal dishes with an à la carte menu for lunch and dinner, as well as an evening tasting menu. Typically you might see a tartlet of salmon eggs, anchovy, and avocado or monkfish with purée of green asparagus and lemongrass sauce or from the land suckling pig with stewed seasonal mushrooms and hazelnut butter, finishing with a Mexican chocolate dessert served on a bed of pinole.
The food is matched by a thoughtfully chosen wine list with a good selection from Mallorca, including some organic and is led by attentive service in a relaxed ambience.
