Review on Go Viet
Propelled by the success of his Viet Food in Chinatown, chef and restaurateur Jeff Tan has opened a second venture in the heart of South Kensington, named Go Viet. A flagship restaurant set over two floors, it's dedicated to upmarket Vietnamese cuisine with modern Western influences. Exuding a tranquil ambience within a muted colour scheme, low hanging Asian style lamps dangle over simply laid tables with small vases of flowers and green banquette style seating.
Jeff Tan was previously Head Chef of Yuan at the Atlantis Palm hotel Dubai and before that chef de cuisine of Hakkasan in Mayfair when it was awarded a Michelin star. The food hits the button with a palette of subtle and elegant flavours, beautifully presented dishes, it celebrates Vietnamese's vibrant cuisine. Here is a kitchen that tempts with the likes of crispy fresh water prawns in coconut crumbs with home-made sweet basil chilli sauce and fruit salsa, before moving on to a main course of grilled Challans duck breast in Vietnamese curry, peanuts and vermicelli or from the sea, pan-fried scallops with fresh herbs and green chilli sauce. To close the show there's desserts in the shape of shades of green, pandan infused coconut milk with sago and diced banana or a classic cheesecake, cheesecake foam, pineapple crisp and berries.
The wine list offers a good spread, together with beers, ciders, juices and cocktails such as Lychee Martini, vodka, lychee liqueur, lime and mint.
