Review on Sola Soho
Acclaimed chef Victor Garvey who has worked at some of Spain's top restaurants including Mugaritz in San Sebastian, has relaunched his Spanish restaurant La Rambla in Soho with a new Californian concept named Sola. Taking its name from a mix of Soho and Los Angeles, the interiors have been updated in an elegant fashion with stylish chairs set against tables laid with crisp white tablecloths. It's a light and airy dining room with gold hanging filament bulbs, and windows lined with lots of greenery.
The menu showcases dishes designed for sharing along the lines of rack of Colorado lamb with herb stuffing, dandelion and rosemary or maybe roasted Challans duck breast with harissa, carrot and plum. Fish fans can opt for Dungeness crab with caviar, chilled almond soup, seaweed waffle and green apple or roulade of smoked salmon with fresh wasabi, maui onion and crispy potato, and for a sweet finale there's pistachio semi-freddo, Cavaillon melon, calamansi and lemon verbena.
The concise wine list of US wines with a focus on California has been curated by wine consultant Zeren Wilson.
