Unveiled on the 4th October 2018, Caractère occupies a prime corner location on Westbourne Park in Notting Hill, set in the former Bumpkin premises. The driving force behind this hotly anticipated venture is Emily Roux, the daughter of legendary chef Michel Roux Jr and her husband Diego Ferrari, the former Head Chef of two Michelin-starred Le Gavroche in Mayfair.

Inside it looks eminently chic with a modern décor, plush velvet chairs are set against marble-topped tables on a herringbone wood floor. Large picture windows flood the area with lots of natural light, while exposed brick walls feature contemporary pictures, and the striking lighting is provided by the award-winning Cheshire based Intecho.

Emily is a talented chef in her own right, but it's Diego who takes the helm in the kitchen, although they have both been instrumental in creating the menu. The restaurant is a labour of love for them, fusing Italian and French cuisine, reflecting their two heritages. Emily leads front of house with considerable charm and warmth, together with attentive and knowledgeable service.

The kitchen delivers a raft of tempting ideas with menus divided into six sections, Curious, Subtle, Delicate, Robust, Strong and Greedy. Open the slate with seared mackerel, confit beetroot, black cardamom and parsley condiment before moving on to braised venison ravioli, Kabocha pumpkin, chestnuts and juniper jus. To finish it's hard to resist a baked apple rose, "Sablé Breton", cinnamon, and green apple sorbet or chocolate cake, pecan praline, salted caramel sauce and mascarpone ice cream.

French and Italy rule on the wine list which is packed with challenging, exciting names from Piedmont and Tuscany, Burgundy and Bordeaux.
