Review on Art Yard Bar & Kitchen at Bankside Hotel
The Art Yard Bar & Kitchen is at the hub of the Bankside hotel, part of the One Blackfriars development, it's ideally located on the on the south side of Blackfriars Bridge for all the major London tourist attractions including The Tate Modern, National Theatre, Borough Market and Shakespeare's Globe. A six-storey glass building designed by architect Ian Simpson of Simpson, Haugh and Partners with the interiors created by former film set producer, Dayna Lee from Los Angeles based Powerstrip Studio. Given the name it's no surprise that modern art showcases throughout the wraparound dining room, which also features Alexander Calder inspired mobiles and sustainably-sourced wood furniture set on a geometric-styled tiled floor.
The all day kitchen is under the helm of Executive Chef Peter Joseph who joins the restaurant from Gridiron at the COMO Metropolitan. Making the most of the British larder for dishes with European influences, guests can expect dishes along the lines of Dorset crab with avocado and pistachios followed by sirloin served on the bone with béarnaise sauce. As a finale consider desserts such as caramelised pineapple with coconut sorbet and pecan pie paired with pumpkin ice cream.
The stand alone bar serves interesting snacks and cocktails like honey-washed Negroni and draught beers on tap from a local Bermondsey brewery, together with a concise wine list.
