Review on Kutir

Kutir which means cottage in Sanskrit, a language of ancient India, is the hotly anticipated restaurant from Michelin-starred chef Rohit Ghai and Abhishake Sangwan, which opened its doors in November 2018. Located in the former premises of another Indian restaurant Vineet Bhatia, it's tucked away in a Victorian townhouse on a quiet residential street in Chelsea, a short walk from Sloane Square. Spread across two small dining rooms, the interiors look eminently chic with an elegant décor. Panelled walls are decorated with floral paintings and mirrors, while stylish contemporary chairs and banquette seating are set on parquet flooring. In the conservatory the room is flooded with lots of natural light from the huge glass skylight, while in the evening it's illuminated by a beautiful crystal chandelier.

Rohit Ghai and Abhishake Sangwan have worked together in some of the UK's most lauded restaurants including Gymkhana and Trisha, as well as Jamavar in Mayfair where Rohit was awarded a prestigious Michelin star. The inspiration for the menu comes from their early careers in luxury properties within India's forestry, where hunting expeditions took place in the surrounding countryside. Focusing on game and seafood, Rohit aims to serve cuisine that is outstanding in terms of both quality and creativity. Open your account with dishes along the lines of nargisi kofta, bone marrow, eggs, spiced sauce and chur-chur paratha before moving on to the main event with a succulent 24 hour lamb roganjosh, lamb shoulder with stone moss and offal samosa or from the sea there's pan seared seabass, coconut, curry leaf and mussels. Proceedings close in style with desserts like chocolate, banana, Valrhona chocolate, chilli and crisp or bhappa doi raspberry, steamed yoghurt, honeycomb and rosemary.

Abhishake Sangwan adeptly manages front of house with great charm and he has also curated a tasty cocktail menu using fresh herbs and spices, alongside the wine list which has been carefully chosen to complement the flavours of the dishes.
