Review on Bulrush Restaurant
The Bulrush Restaurant is a neighbourhood gem, set at the end of an unassuming parade of shops in the leafy suburb of Kingsdown on the outskirts of Bristol, it has hit the culinary high notes with a prestigious Michelin star. Chef George Livesey, a former Roux scholar learned his craft in several stellar restaurants such as St John in Clerkenwell, Club Gascon and White Rabbit in Dalston, before deciding to go it alone with his partner Katherine Craughwell, who admirably looks after front of house. Laid out over two floors, it has a pared back décor with simple whitewashed brick walls.
Livesey delivers an inventive modern British menu of stylishly presented dishes, based around carefully sourced local and foraged ingredients. BBQ trout, red cabbage gazpacho and horseradish is a popular starter before a main course of Mallard, black bean and medlar. Proceedings close in style with truffle ice cream, croissant mousse and caramel apples or pearl barley pudding, malt and beer ice cream.
To accompany your dining experience there's a carefully compiled wine list, local beers, cider, cocktails, Japanese plum wine and sparkling sake.
