Review on Mews Restaurant
Mews Restaurant is a multi-award winning establishment including a prestigious Michelin star, located in the historic village of Baltimore on the South-West tip of Ireland in the county of Cork. Located in a former coach house it was opened in 2015 by Robert Collender and James Ellis, who look after front of house with great charm. Inside it has retained its stone walls which are decorated with Rohan Reilly prints and well-spaced tables are laid with crisp white linen set against Scandinavian style wishbone chairs.
Pampering your palette is Head Chef Ahmet Dede, who has worked under such luminaries as Patrick Guilbaud and Mickael Viljanen. He presents a daily-tasting menu that places a premium on fresh local produce from nearby suppliers, with wild ingredients foraged from the surrounding countryside. Some of the dishes you might see include Sherkin Island oyster, wakame and wood sorrel or cod, shoregreens, seaweeds and mussel sauce. Away from the sea there's Skeaghanore duck liver and apple or Walsh's lamb, onion, wild garlic, black garlic and Orla potatoes.
To accompany the exquisite dishes there's a carefully curated wine list which majors in natural, organic and biodynamic wines which can be paired with the menu.
