Review on Bokan 37
Bokan 37 is a destination restaurant and bar, housed on the top three floors of Novotel's flagship building in Canary Wharf, it affords spectacular 360 degree panoramic views across London's skyline. The décors have been created by design agency Mystery, who picked up a prestigious FAB Award for its creative interiors of the venue. Taking inspiration from the nearby Docklands it has an urban industrial design, featuring rusted copper metalwork, speckled panelling and exposed wooden floors. The restaurant is located on the 37th floor, with a cocktail bar on the 38th and the top floor is home to an open air roof terrace.
Taking reins of the kitchen is French chef Guillaume Gillan, who has worked under the tutelage of some of the most respected chefs in the business including Joël Robuchon and Alain Ducasse. An award-winning restaurant, it showcases modern European cuisine that focuses on seasonal British produce. As a curtain raiser there's teriyaki eel and foie gras terrine, dashi jelly, sea herbs salad and red Kampot pepper before moving on to a main course of seared hake, wakame sauce, spelt risotto, green asparagus and Oscietra caviar. Meat fans might be offered dishes along the lines of grilled Rhug Estate organic lamb, panisse, mustard crust and tarragon sauce or dry aged Hereford beef fillet, heritage carrots, passionberry and wet garlic.
There's an extensive wine list that covers a lot of territory, craft beers and locally distilled spirits, as well as bespoke cocktails like the Royal Captain, Hendrick's gin, lavender infused Mancino Vermouth Bianco, elderflower cordial, cold jasmine tea, grapefruit bitters and topped up with soda.
