Review on Bob Bob Cité

Billed as a brasserie for the 21st century, Bob Bob Cité is the second venue from Leonard Shutov, who opened Bob Bob Richard in Soho to critical acclaim in 2008. It's located on the eighth floor of the 225-metre skyscraper Leadenhall Building designed by Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners on London's square mile, affectionately known as the Cheesegrater. The restaurant which has taken five years to create at a cost of around £25 million has been designed by Marylebone based Brady Williams Studio.

Offering the last word in unabashed luxury and opulence, the all leather booth marbled floor restaurant features 800 light fittings including 25 vintage-style glittering chandeliers, crafted by royal warrant-holders Dernier & Hamlyn. There's a staggering 12.5 km of mirror polished steel trim lining the walls, held in place by 48,000 hand polished snake eye bolts and bold colourful illustrated panels by graphic artist Supermundane.

The open kitchen showcases country style French cooking with Russian accents served on signature Wedgwood china. You could start the ball rolling with a vodka shot with Siberian sturgeon caviar or oysters baked with black truffle hollandaise. Otherwise opt for a starter of crabe mayonnaise, crab and avocado salad with baby gem lettuce or from the land steak tartare, chopped Scottish rump of beef, shallots and gherkins. When it comes to main courses, le 'pie' de poulet with morels and sauternes is a popular choice or for those with a preference to fish there's sole goujonettes, lightly breaded and deep-fried lemon sole paired with tartar sauce. Desserts conjure up the likes of rum baba, vanilla Chantilly and vintage Panama rum or maybe opt for the zingy Le Colonel, lemon sorbet served with Russian Standard Platinum vodka.

The wine cellar offers a broad range of selections from all the premier growing regions, as well as a large collection of Armagnac brandy, with more than 100 vintages starting from 1888, and an impressive selection of Chateau d'Yquem sweet wine.
