Review on Mamucium, Hotel Indigo Manchester - Victoria Station

Hotel Indigo situated next to Victoria Station is a new boutique hotel within the new City Buildings development in the heart of Manchester, a wonderfully appointed venue where you can enjoy the most of the attractions of this vibrant area. Holding centre stage is their Mamucium restaurant set on the ground floor in the hotel's newly built rotunda. Named after the Roman fort that was the birthplace of modern Manchester, the building and interiors have been created by 3DReid Architects. Decorated in a palette of bright blue and silver with an open kitchen, there's a stunning curved quartz and brass bar, perfect for pre and post dinner aperitifs.

Taking helm of the kitchen is Executive Chef Andrew Green, who joins the restaurant from the River Restaurant at The Lowry Hotel, where he held two AA Rosettes. The kitchen takes great pride in sourcing close to home, but will venture further afield across the country to utilise the very best of seasonal produce. Amongst the starters look for the likes of Cumbrian pressed pork, honey mustard, baby pickled vegetables and toasted Lancashire muffin or lobster macaroni cheese with lemon and parsley crumb. After that take your pick from a main course of Lancashire hotpot, cannon of Herdwick lamb, confit leg parcel, shallot, potato pearls, carrot and lamb jus or from the sea fillet of Loch Duart Salmon, white bean and Cumbrian pancetta ragu, clams and fennel. There's plenty of tempting stuff among the desserts, witness a Mamucium Manchester tart, fresh custard tart, homemade raspberry jam, banana crisps and shaved coconut or a Bakewell steamed sponge with vanilla pod ice cream.

For more informal dining or a quick drink, there's the 70-cover M Café which serves loose leaf teas from Denton-based Tea from the Manor, coffee from Salford Roasters, soups, salads, deli sandwiches tapas and sharing plates.
