Review on Mortimer House Kitchen
Mortimer House Kitchen is set on the ground floor of Mortimer House, a majestic Art Deco building in the heart of Fitzrovia, which is also home to a private members club. The mid-century interiors have been designed by the US-based company AvroKO in neutral colours, with bright blue rugs on herringbone parquet flooring. Overlooked by an open kitchen and a large swanky bar, there's chic studded banquettes and cosy chairs set against tables.
Taking helm of the all-day kitchen is Ex- L'Anima chef of 10 years Lello Favuzzi, who produces vibrant Italian dishes with Israeli influences for a menu of small, medium and large plates. Kick start proceedings with soft shell crab fritti, yuzu, coriander and chilli before moving on to a main course of grilled veal cutlet and Sicilian vegetable caponata or from the sea grilled octopus, purple potatoes, Padron peppers and harissa. To conclude there's desserts in the shape of blueberry tart served with yoghurt and vanilla or tiramisu, almond and chocolate crisp.
The wine list majors in Italian and French bins, and there's house cocktails like Maslow's Mule, Russian Standard, Fever Tree ginger beer, raspberries and lime.
