Review on Flor
Flor is the second outing from the team behind Michelin-starred Lyle's in Shoreditch, ranked 38th in the World's Top 100 Restaurants. Located on the edge of Borough Market, this enterprising venture combines the virtues of a wine bar, bakery and restaurant inspired by the buvettes of Paris and the pintxos bars of San Sebastián.
Set in a 19th century building, it has a ground floor bakery with counter seating, while the more formal restaurant is upstairs connected by a lovely black cast iron spiral staircase. The dining room features original exposed brick walls and banquette seating, bathed in lots of natural light from the full length Crittall windows.
The kitchen looks to the vast selection of European ingredients available in London for its dishes, making excellent use of produce from bustling Borough Market. During the day you can pop in for one of their fresh sourdough loaves or a bite to eat such as Palourde clam flatbread, vin jaune and new season garlic. In the evening lights are dimmed and the menu showcases dishes such as lamb rib, yoghurt, black lime and pistachios or maybe Anjou pigeon to share, finishing with cherry blossom cake or Maynard's strawberries paired with vanilla ice cream.
To accompany the food there's beers, ciders and a wine list that focuses on sustainable vintners, with plenty of options available by the glass.
