Review on Wild Flor
Taking over the former Skyfall site on bustling Church Road in Hove, Wild Flor is a delightful neighbourhood bistro, set up by four former employees of the well regarded Gingerman group of restaurants, Robert Maynard, Faye Hudson and James Thomson who together run front of house and leading the kitchen is Oliver Darby. Full length windows flood the dining room with lots of natural light, while the décor keeps things simple with exposed brick walls, banquette seating along one wall and dark-wood tables and chairs set on wood flooring.
The kitchen proves its worth with confident modern food, fine ingredients, neat ideas and exciting flavours. So expect roasted quail, cherry puree, candied walnuts and parsley or citrus cured Loch Duart salmon, fennel, chilli and orange amongst the starters. Main courses pick up on glazed beef brisket, Swiss chard, shallot and horseradish for meat fans or from the sea there's fillet of brill, olives, capers, samphire and spider crab bisque. It's worth saving room for dessert which could be pistachio cake paired with yoghurt and cherry sorbet or strawberry and elderflower pavlova.
There's a first-class wine list which can be paired with your chosen dishes and there's also a lovely choice available by the glass and carafe.
