Review on Cottons Vauxhall
Cottons in Camden was launched in 1985 and it was followed by siblings in Notting Hill, Shoreditch and the fourth link in the chain was their Vauxhall branch. You can soak up all the flavours, colours and sound of the Caribbean in this South Bank branch, occupying a plum position overlooking the River Thames with its enviable scenic al fresco dining. The large colourful indoor space and rum shack bar is light and airy, with their trademark Caribbean scenes depicted on the walls.
The kitchen sends out vibrant dishes from the islands, encompassing starters like salt fish fritters with spiced mango chutney and chilli jam or pork ribs roasted with rum and molasses, barbecue glaze, pickled vegetables and guava chilli reduction. Main courses pick up on Caribbean steamed seabass, okra, callaloo and scallion and boiled dumplings or from the land jerk half chicken, slow roasted with pimiento and spices, stir fried vegetables, jerk sauce and rice n peas. There's tempting stuff among the desserts as well with a Jamaican bread and butter pudding, caramelised banana and cinnamon crème fraiche or chocolate fondant with black cherries marinated in kirsch paired with vanilla ice cream.
You are spoilt for choice with over 300 different rums sourced from all over the globe, alongside a killer selection of exotic rum-based cocktails.
