Review on Abd el Wahab
Abd el Wahab which has established 19 successful siblings in the Middle East since 1999, chose London for their first international opening of their high-end Lebanese brand of restaurants. Located in a smart red-bricked Georgian house on Pont Street in the heart of Belgravia, it's just a short walk from Knightsbridge underground. Laid out over two storeys, the main dining room with its small terrace at the front is on the ground floor, while downstairs is reserved for private functions.
The sleek interiors have been designed by Beirut-based Antoine Tabet & Associates, with a small dining area towards the front featuring a ceiling of gold leaf. The main restaurant with its original fireplace is flooded with light from the large atrium skylight and hand-carved stone statement pieces are set within a green living wall.
The kitchen waves a rich tapestry of flavours where you could kick start proceedings with their hot and cold mezze, which includes their popular hummus topped with meat and pine nuts. When it comes to main courses why not choose their mixed grill consisting of grilled shrimps, lamb cutlets, lamb and taouk or grilled seabass fillet, served with roasted potato and mushroom Provencal sauce. Desserts stay close to home with a pistachio baklawa stuffed with clotted cream.
The wine list features a excellent selection of Lebanese wines alongside offerings from Europe and North America.
