Review on Nutshell
Husband and wife duo, Marwa Alkhalaf and Mohammad Paknejad have opened their debut restaurant named Nutshell on St Martin's Lane in the heart of Covent Garden. Celebrating the regional cuisine of Iran influenced by the centuries of trade along the Silk Road, with homemade recipes that have been passed down from generation to generation, they have appointed ex-Palomar chef Jeremy Borrow to take the reins of the kitchen.
Spread out over two floors, the interior design has been created by B3 in a palette of green and pink with accents of brass. An open kitchen and counter seating is on the ground floor, while upstairs there's a semi-private space for larger parties to enjoy the whole feasting experience.
Dishes are designed for sharing along the lines of bandari seafood squid, prawn dill and aioli and smokey aubergine shallot, walnut and mint. Elsewhere look for kofte tabrizi lamb meatball, dried fruit and walnut or from the sea octopus sabzi salsa and butterbeans. To finish desserts offer an enticing mix of flavours with a Persian sundae with lemon pomegranate and basil or chocolate and roses with pistachio and cardamom.
The carefully compiled wine list has plenty of options available by the glass and there's also cocktails like negroni Irani, sour cherry wine, spiced campari and saffron gin.
