Review on Salut!
Salut! restaurant in Islington is a welcome dining addition to the area, occupying a corner site on Essex Road and Wakeham Street. It's a laid-back venue with large picture windows on two sides, bathing the dining room with lots of natural light. Overlooked by an open kitchen, there's chunky wooden tables with vintage furnishings, while evening dining offers a more intimate experience with dimmed copper lighting and candles.
The kitchen looks to modern European cuisine, fusing Nordic and French flavours with some German influences, emphasising local produce as well as sustainably sourced fish and organic vegetables. As a curtain raiser order grilled squid tartare, broad beans, parsley puree, guanciale and potatoe tuile before a main course of seared lamb loin, parsnips variations, wild garlic and red wine reduction. To conclude there's desserts in the shape of Valrhona chocolate ganache, strawberries and sweet wine sabayon or for those who prefer a savoury note, opt for the selection of cheeses by La Fromagerie served with red onion jam and Carasau crisp bread.
The staff are always super friendly and attentive and there's a carefully compiled wine list to complement the food.
