Review on Allegra at The Stratford
The team behind Chiltern Firehouse and the St Pancras hotel have opened a fine dining restaurant in The Stratford, named Allegra it's located on the 7th floor of the Manhattan Loft Gardens skyscraper, near the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. The décor has been created by Space Copenhagen in a sleek neutral palette featuring a restaurant, bar and outdoor terrace leading into Sky Garden with it's panoramic views over London's skyline.
Taking helm of the kitchen is ex-Chiltern Firehouse chef Patrick Powell, who showcases a modern European menu making excellent use of local produce from their own organic farm in Kent, as well as the own herb garden on the terrace. Up-to-the-minute ideas and ingredients point up the modern menu with starters along the lines of hand-dived scallops, cucumber, pickled green strawberries and yoghurt or from the land, confit chicken wing, parmesan, dumplings Scottish girolles and sorrel. Moving on there's much to enjoy like Peterhead cod, coco beams, fig and sea vegetables or for meat-lovers roast suckling pig, Bramley apple glaze, turnip and mint. Well-crafted desserts close the show with honey cake, blackberries and caramelized pastry ice cream or baked custard, hazelnut, grapefruit and cobnuts.
To accompany the food there's a comprehensive wine list as well as signature cocktails. For a more casual dining experience the bar offers a menu of sharing dishes and small plates.
