Review on Shaun Rankin at Grantley Hall
Following an extensive three-year renovation at a cost of £70 million by owner Valeria Sykes, Grantley Hall in Ripon was launched in July 2019. Built in 1860, by Thomas Norton and his son Fletcher Norton, first Baron Grantley in the 17th century, the Grade II listed property had stood empty for six years before being restored by the Sykes family. Set amongst 38 acres on its own private island, complete with a lake and English Heritage listed Japanese garden, the new hotel and wellness retreat offers guests an unashamedly lavish experience.
Shaun Rankin at Grantley Hall is their signature restaurant located within one of the original public rooms. It has a refined traditional elegance, retaining a quintessential English décor with ornate cornice ceilings and pillars, lush drapes and glittering chandeliers. Bespoke handmade furniture is set against crisp linen laid tables, creating a suitably cosseted ambience for leisurely meals.
Michelin-starred chef Shaun Rankin, who still operates his restaurant Ormer in Mayfair has created a seasonal tasting menu that taps into the bountiful supplies of the surrounding countryside, as well as their own kitchen garden. Diners will also have the option of wine pairing to enhance their dining experience.
