Review on Fletchers Restaurant at Grantley Hall
Fletchers Restaurant is one of three restaurants available to guests at Grantley Hall in Ripon, which has undergone an extensive multi-million pound renovation by the Yorkshire-based Sykes family. The new luxurious hotel and wellness retreat just five miles from Ripon has an idyllic setting on the River Skell, near the Unesco World Heritage site of Fountains Abbey in North Yorkshire.
Fletchers is their main dining restaurant, open for breakfast, lunch and dinner in a sumptuously restored room within the Queen Anne wing of the Hall, featuring traditional wood panelling and statement fireplaces, it has lovely views over the River Skell and West Courtyard.
Taking helm of the kitchen is Craig Atchinson, who has earned his culinary stripes in several noteworthy places including Hudson's by Craig Atchinson restaurant at the Grand hotel in York, where he earned three prestigious AA Rosettes. A keen forager, Craig shows his allegiance to locally sourced produce showcasing refined dishes that are treated simply and with impeccable technique. A good starting point would be the North coast mackerel, smoked dulse, fennel, buttermilk and dill before moving on to a main course from the Josper grill of signature salt aged beef fillet with roasted roots, Lyonnaise potatoes and red wine jus. There's a nice selection of desserts to finish like rum baba with raspberry and peach, whipped vanilla mascarpone and lemon verbena or baked English custard tart paired with burn honey pistachio ice cream.
