Review on Ivy Buchanan Street
Having a loyal following throughout the UK, the acclaimed Ivy brand of restaurants opened Ivy Buchanan Street in Glasgow's city centre in July 2019, two years after the successful launch of Ivy on the Square in Edinburgh. Previously occupied by the Nationwide Building Society right in the heart of the shopping district, the restaurant is laid out over two floors, with the addition of al fresco dining outside when the weather is warm.
Inside it has the trademark sumptuous interiors by Martin Brudnizki Design Studio, with the main dining room on the ground floor featuring a beautiful onyx bar. There's additional seating on the first floor with a pink hued central bar, and private dining for 24 guests. Walls are decorated throughout with an eclectic selection of artwork curated by Art Consultant, Adam Ellis, with pieces depicting a selection of Glasgow's key features including local topography, transport, fashion and Scottish Opera.
Executive Chef Sean Burbidge has appointed Brian Scanlan to take the helm of the kitchen and his CV includes renowned restaurants such as the Hawksmoor Group and Corbin and King. Breakfasts gets the ball rolling and works its way through to lunch and leisurely dinners and everything else in between. The crowd-pleasing menu encompasses a variety of dishes to suit all tastes and occasions, and diners can look to signature dishes such as The Ivy's shepherd pie and desserts like their chocolate Bombe.
Alongside the carefully compiled wine list, there's a drinks menu from local suppliers such as Glasgow-based Garden Shed Drinks, Arbikie Highland Strawberry Vodka and Ellis No. 3 Scottish Butterfly Pea Gin and cocktails like the botanical Kibble Palace Garden.
