Review on Cecconi's City of London at The Ned
Just one of nine restaurants situated in the £200m flagship hotel The Ned, Cecconi's is an all day Venetian brasserie, with siblings in Mayfair and Shoreditch, as well as further afield in Berlin, Barcelona, Istanbul, Miami and West Hollywood. Located on the ground floor of the vast former banking hall of the Grade 1 listed Midland Bank, it is divided from the other restaurants by magnificent African verdite columns. Tables are well laid with crisp linen set with dark wood chairs and blush pink studded banquettes, and there's also a custom-made pink leather clad bar.
The kitchen sends out well executed Northern Venetian dishes along the lines of Red mullet carpaccio, pomegranate and mint or San Daniele prosciutto, pickles and rocket amongst the starters. Follow on with maybe a pizza, or pasta such as linguine lobster, tomato, chilli, otherwise opt for the lamb cutlets, peas and guanciale or whole sea bream, salmoriglio and lemon. As a finale consider tiramisu or profiteroles.
