Review on Condita

Unveiled in November 2018 on an unassuming street in Edinburgh's Southside area, Condita is owned by fine dining consultant and wine writer Mark Slaney. The high ceilinged dining room has taken a minimalist approach, with white painted walls displayed with hand painted banners that change with the seasons, created by Mark's artist partner. Split on two levels, it's an intimate affair with just six polished wood tables sourced from McIntosh of Kirkcaldy.

Taking helm of the kitchen is talented chef Conor Toomey, who has previously graced the kitchens of some of the UK's most acclaimed kitchens such as the Isle of Eriska Hotel, Amberley Castle at Arundel and Coworth Park, Ascot. His surprise tasting menu with a choice of five or eight courses has not only set the hearts of foodies racing, it was also the proud recipient of a prestigious Michelin star in the 2020 edition of the Guide. The menus reflect the very best of seasonal produce, with much of the produce sourced from a 19th century walled garden in the Scottish Borders. Diners can look forward to breathtaking flavours and brilliant compositions, showing culinary intelligence and diversity, creating an unforgettable dining experience.

Service is well-paced and informative, and the concise wine list emphasises mainly organic and biodynamic wines from carefully selected artisan producers.
