Review on The Restaurant at The Capital
David Levin who founded The Capital in 1970 sold the venture to Warwick Hotels & Resorts, but has remained a consultant within the company. A five-star boutique hotel that is discreetly located in a quiet side street, just a stone's throw from the celebrity hubbub of Harrods and Harvey Nichols, it's one of the most sought-after hotels in the metropolis.
At the heart of the hotel is its auspicious restaurant that over the years has seen a number of illustrious Michelin-starred chefs come and go, such as Eric Chavot, Jérôme Ponchelle and more recently, Nathan Outlaw. It is now home to Executive Chef Adam Simmonds, who joins the restaurant from the nearby Belmond Cadogan Hotel, having also worked at Danesfield House in Buckinghamshire and Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons in Great Milton, Oxfordshire.
The menus run with the seasons making excellent use of high-quality ingredients from trusted suppliers. Open proceedings with foie gras, sour cherry, chamomile and pistachio or from the sea scallop, ceviche, caviar and fermented tomato. Main courses move into the realms of salt aged duck, grapefruit, turnip and fennel or maybe new season lamb, lovage, tomato, fermented garlic and smoked aubergine. Well executed desserts close the show with a coconut panna cotta, blueberry and lemon or English blackberry, Pink Lady apple and herb sorbet.
To accompany the dishes, there's a hand-picked, perfectly curated wine collection, with the sommelier on hand to pair the wine with your meal.
