Review on Koffmann & Mr White's
Lauded chefs Pierre Koffmann and Marco Pierre White have joined forces to open Koffmann & Mr White's, occupying the former space of Allium restaurant in The Abbey Hotel. A stately Georgian building built in 1742 in the heart of the City of Bath, it's a short stroll from the Abbey, Pump Rooms and the Roman Baths.
Located on the ground floor, the interiors have been created by Rebecca Wakeford of Marco's restaurant group Black and White Hospitality. It's decked out in a muted palette, with a mix of marble and wood table tops set against leather banquette seating and brasserie style chairs, on a one hundred year-old Georgian wooden floor. Flickering candelabras give a romantic atmosphere to proceedings and walls are decorated with old artwork.
The kitchen sends out brasserie-style dishes based around English and French classics using carefully sourced produce. Amongst the starters there's that 1970 classic, prawn cocktail with Marie Rose sauce and brown bread and butter before moving on to a main course of roast chicken à la forestière, roast chicken, buttered leaf spinach, woodland mushrooms, fondant potato and Madeira roasting juices. Desserts usher in toasted almond frangipane tart paired with crème anglaise and plum compote or a delicious oeufs à la neige with poached meringue, crème anglaise, pink praline and caramel.
