David and Becky Salisbury's duo of enterprising country pubs has taken the Home Counties by storm and they have stuck to the guns when it comes to quality and atmosphere. These are 'proper pubs' serving proper food and drink to a growing band of enthusiastic followers.
Their pubs are still honest watering holes, but their trump card is on the plate: they are committed to using local and organic produce and are on track as regards green credentials.
Salisbury Pubs
The Alford Arms - Berkhamsted
The original of the group; local, free-range and organic produce are used to good effect and the seasonal menu divides up into 'small plates' (popular with the ladies who lunch) and 'main meals'
The Royal Oak - Bovingdon Green
Inside, it has all the familiar Country Living trappings - a snug with a wood-burning stove, dark polished floorboards, rich fabrics - and there's a sprawling garden outside with a sunny terrace
