Review on IX Restaurant at The Chester Hotel
The classic granite façade that marked out the Simpson family’s stylish hotel situated in the heart of Aberdeen’s West End has undergone a five million pound redevelopment programme and has re-opened as the Chester Hotel. Setting a new standard in luxury the hotel now showcases their magnificent signature IX restaurant.
The kitchen is under the leadership of Savoy-trained executive chef Kevin Dalgleish, who serves the finest Scottish food inspired by the abundance of the local larder. Diners can choose their own fresh meat or fish from the counter and watch all the theatre of it being cooked on the Josper Grill. Why not choose Kevin's signature dish of smoked duck and venison, grated foie gras, pickled vegetables and truffle mayonnaise to start, followed by a main course of seared fillet of Scrabster cod, braised oxtail and monkfish cheek fritter or one of the succulent steaks, supplied by award winning butcher Simon Howie. When it comes to desserts their banana soufflé paired with caramelized chicory sauce and white chocolate ice cream is well worth the 15 minute wait, or maybe choose Valrhona, chocolate mess with milk chocolate ice cream, 100s and 1000s and bitter chocolate foam.
There's a fine wine list to match the food, together with carefully crafted cocktails and their very own beer The Chester Brew, especially brewed for them by Harviestoun in Alva, Clackmannanshire.
