Review on Soif
Soif is the latest newcomer from the highly accomplished duo Ed Wilson and Oli Barker, the team behind the successful Terroirs in the Strand and Brawn in Bethnal Green. Located on Battersea Rise a street already full with restaurants, it would be very easy to miss this unprepossessing new venture, which would be a pity. With a minimalist décor spread over two floors, wine associated posters on the walls, overlooked by an open kitchen, its sure to be a very popular neighbourhood destination.
The kitchen serves robust Gallic cuisine using French regional ingredients that have proved so popular in its siblings. The tapas style menu changes daily dependent on the market and the seasons, but could feature heirloom beetroots and pickled walnuts or squid and black pudding amongst the starters. Follow on with braised pigs cheeks or partridge, choucroute and Montbéliard sausage served with sauerkraut, closing the show with apple with frangipane and custard or pannacotta, quince and chestnuts. As you would expect from this stable of restaurants, Soif offers an exceptional biodynamic wine list of 150 bins, with some offerings available by the glass or carafe. Service from the wait staff is notably attentive and knowledgeable.
