Review on The Queens at Belbroughton
The Queens is a smart 16th century pub in the lovely ancient Worcestershire village of Belbroughton on the outskirts of Stourbridge, just five minutes from Junction 4 of the M5. You can find references to it in the Saxon Charter of 817 AD and it is also recorded in the Doomsday Book, but these days it sports a stylish interior with a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
Menus showcase the finest seasonal British ingredients and dishes are sharply executed, bursting with natural flavour. To start you might go for ham hock terrine with onion marmalade and crispy croutons or smoked salmon, mackerel and halibut with a confit of lemons, steamed potatoes, pickled onion salad and horseradish cream. Main courses embrace a tasting of pork-belly, pastry and black pudding with a confit of cabbage, apple puree and crackling or fishcake bonbons with wilted spinach, chive butter and white wine sauce. Desserts are equally inviting ideas with warmed chocolate tart served with pistachio ice-cream or choose the tempting trio of citrus desserts including lemon posset, orange chocolate and passion fruit sorbet with crispy meringue.
There is a well chosen wine list to complement the food with options available by the glass. Service is attentive and friendly and The Queens is proving to be a very popular dining destination, not only locally but much further afield.
