Review on Brawn
Located on Columbia Road, famous for its Sunday flower market is where you will find Brawn, sibling to the successful Terroirs wine bar and restaurant. Brawn as in potted pig's head, is a collaboration between chef Ed Wilson and Eric Narioo of the wine company Caves de Pyrene, who is a staunch advocate of bio-dynamic and natural wines. The building, a former furniture making warehouse is divided into two high ceilinged dining areas, with mismatched wooden tables and chairs, exposed brickwork walls featuring local artwork, and overlooked by an open kitchen.
The seasonal menu showcases tapas style small plates, all with impeccable provenance and is divided up into different sections, Taste Tickler, Pig, Plancha, Raw, Slow Cook and Puddings and Cheeses. Locally sourced products are featured with their Hackney wild sourdough bread baked in London Fields by the E5 Bakery and their cheese is kept, matured and supplied by Androuet in Spitalfields.
There is an exceptional wine list featuring natural wines sourced from small growers who work sustainably, organically or bio-dynamically in the vineyard and with minimal interventions in the winery. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly with attentive and knowledgeable service.
