Review on The Moorings
The Moorings is Richard and Angela Long’s dream come true. They are hooked on Norfolk, adore Blakeney and have now settled into their unpretentious neighbourhood restaurant a few yards from the quay. This is a casual place, open throughout the day for morning coffee, homemade cakes and pastries, plus simple lunches of filled ciabattas, and baguettes, bowls of soup, salads and hot specials.
In the evening, the kitchen rolls up its collective sleeves for a more ambitious restaurant menu based around fish from the local boats, seasonal game and locally grown fruit and vegetables. Depending on the time of year, you might be treated to cod, cockle and prawn chowder with fresh herbs, baked fillet of black bream with a parsley and sea salt crust, roast breast of free-range chicken with butternut squash, prosciutto and balsamic dressing or fillet of venison with celeriac mash. Angela’s desserts have a glowing reputation â€" try her lemon tart or summer pudding â€" and there’s a lively list of two dozen wines to go with the food. Note that opening hours may be restricted during the winter months (November-March).
