Review on Felin Fach Griffin
‘Eat, Drink, Sleep’ is the motto of this stylish country pub/restaurant-with-rooms, once a working hill farm in the wilds between the Black Mountains and the Brecon Beacons. These days its pulls in eager crowd, who are happy to appreciate everything it has to offer.
The kitchen and is keen to focus on local and organic produce, much of it procured from within a 15-mile radius of the pub. Lunch and supper menus cover similar ground and the results can be intriguing: a seasonal starter of potato gnocchi with wild rabbit, corn and pancetta could precede rump of Welsh lamb with grilled vegetables, couscous and black olives. To finish there are tasty desserts such as pink rhubarb trifle or maybe strawberries and meringue with honey ice-cream.
The Griffin received a Bib Gourmand in the 2012 Michelin Guide and was the only pub outside of London to win the title of one of the Top Three Wine Pubs in the United Kingdom at the first Harpers Wine & Spirit Drinking Out Excellence Awards, held at the St Martin's Lane Hotel in the West End.
