Review on Riverside Restaurant
'A great advert for local food' proclaimed one Mobile Food Guide user who also rated the 'excellent fresh seafood bought from local fishermen' that is the Riverside's stock in trade. Long-serving owners Arthur and Janet Watson have seen the place through countless changes over the years, and simplicity remains the key to its enduring charm.
Visitors adore the setting â€" the restaurant is literally surrounded by water and you need to trek over a walkway to reach it. The interior is refreshingly unadorned and the same is true of the cooking. Portions are hefty: ‘the seafood platter beat my two daughters,’ noted one satisfied visitor. Other treats on the menu will depend on the catch: grilled mackerel fillets with salsa verde, crab linguine, Lyme Bay lobster with parsley butter, baked turbot with mild mustard and lemon sauce, whole roast sea bream with sea salt and thyme.
The lady in charge of desserts might dream up anything from warm chocolate and rum pudding with honeycomb ice cream to iced crème brûlée with candied figs. The fish-friendly wine list is easy on the pocket.
