Review on English's of Brighton
English's is one of the oldest and best known restaurants on the South Coast it has been delighting Brighton residents and visitors alike with seafood for over 150 years. It has also welcomed a glittering parade of celebrities including Charlie Chaplin, Laurence Olivier, Charlton Heston and Dame Judy Dench. The restaurant was originally established by the Brazier family during the last century and occupies three fisherman's cottages which date back almost 400 years.
The kitchen brigade pride themselves on the fact that all soups and sauces are made on the premises from their own mayonnaise to the freshly prepared lobster bisque. Typical dishes on the ever-changing menus might include pan-fried squid with chilli and garlic, steamed halibut with anchovy and caper sauce, and baked fillet of brill decorated with 'potato scales' and served with tomato and basil sauce. Meat fanciers aren't neglected, and desserts could include strawberry mousse or pear tarte Tatin.
