Review on Kathmandu Restaurant
A fixture of the Bristol restaurant scene for around 25 years, the Kathmandu is perfectly placed at the foot of Colston Tower, opposite the Colston Hall (and within easy reach of the Hippodrome). It's an amenable family-run place with sleek black decor, suede chairs and native Nepalese artefacts dotted around the subtly lit dining room.
The kitchen offer a full range of Indian mainstream dishes ranging from samosas and tandooris to rogan josh and chicken biyrani, but it pays to explore the authentic Nepalese specialities which have their own distinctive flavours and spicing (they are also cooked in virgin olive oil, not ghee). Among the highlights are 'wo' patties, 'mo mo' (steamed meat dumplings) and lamb kritipur cooked with whole spices. Drink imported Kathmandu beer or something from the well-chosen wine list.
