Review on Boqueria
Boqueria tapas restaurant is located on Brixton's busy Acre Lane heading towards Clapham. The restaurant takes its name from El Mercat de Sant Josep de la Boqueria more commonly known as Boqueria, a large public market in the Ciutat Vella district of Barcelona. The restaurant has been kitted out in an understated contemporary style with cream banquette seating running down one wall, set against simply laid tables on strip wood flooring. There is also a long bar with high stools to perch on while enjoying a drink and nibbles.
The kitchen uses well sourced fresh products including speciality Spanish ingredients for its inventive tapas, which are some of the best available in London. Typical offerings on the carte include Carrillada Ibérica, Iberian pork cheeks with red wine sauce; Canelones de berenjena; aubergine cannelloni with goat cheese and mushrooms; Cochinillo Asado, suckling pig with parsnip, sweet potato crisps, apple sauce and lemon sorbet; Bacalao Con Samfaina, filet of cod on base of ratatouille with shredded leeks and baked egg yolk or the delicious hand-carved Iberian ham acorn-fed. On the dessert front there's triple chocolate tart or the traditional Spanish Crema Catalana, caramelized creamy custard.
The wine list brings together some great Spanish wines whilst keepings its prices in check and Boqueria also offers a speciality menu of sherries and cavas to complement the dishes.
