Review on Carriages Restaurant
Little Sicily in the heart of the Derbyshire countryside is what you can expect at this unusual Italian restaurant a few miles from Buxton. The curious name refers to the fact that the dining area consists of two Pullman railway carriages complete with velvet armchairs, period-style lamps and a 'platform bar'.
Fresh fish specials are a feature of the menu, which deals in native home cooking along the lines of veal escalopes with Marsala, mushrooms and cream or caramelised duck breast with balsamic vinegar, wine and thyme. Pasta is also a strong suit, with everything from penne, Ricotta, spinach and chilli to classic fettuccine alla norma (with aubergines, red onions, olives, capers, basil and tomato sauce).
Birthday bashes, weddings and other special events are a speciality, and Carriages also has its own 'Ladies that Lunch' Club.
