Review on Ty'n Rhos Country House
Rated as one of north Wales' most treasured guesthouses/restaurants, Ty'n Gros started life as a humble farmstead, but is now an auspicious destination looking out across 72 acres of grounds towards the Isle of Anglesey. It's location, nestling on a lush plain between Snowdonia and the sea is an obvious attraction, but the place is now receiving more plaudits for its food. The dining room is a formal affair, with stylish contemporary furnishings and French windows opening out onto the terrace and grounds.
Daily fixed-price dinner menus run to five courses, and the kitchen makes admirable use of Welsh produce. A typical meal might kick off with wild mushroom cappuccino, before gravlax with mustard seed mayonnaise and rocket salad. Mains could range from oven-baked wild sea bass with Conwy mussels and vermouth to quail pithivier with juniper jus. A refreshing sorbet precedes desserts such as pear tartlet with frangipane, and there are Welsh cheeses served with a cheese soufflé, date and apple chutney to close proceedings.
