Review on Langmans Restaurant
Dinner at Anton and Gail Buttery’s exclusive little restaurant is a special treat. The old listed building (once a bakery) has been done out with real style, and the whole experience is about the leisurely enjoyment of good food and wine.
Anton Buttery and his kitchen team produce everything from scratch and make admirable use of seasonal and organic produce, which allows them to change their six-course tasting menu every four weeks. To begin, there might be roast breast of wood pigeon with celeriac purée and juniper sauce; that could be followed by a single scallop with parsnip and apple soup drizzled with curry oil. Meat might be represented by fillet of Cornish beef, cep sauce, mustard mash and shiitake mushrooms, then comes a spectacular selection of top names from the West Country cheese renaissance.
Proceedings conclude in style with a trio of puddings: rhubarb and ginger brûlée with rhubarb sorbet, dark chocolate nemesis, banana and pistachio parfait with passion fruit sorbet, for example. There are also separate menus for ‘piscevarians’ and vegetarians.
