Review on The Beach Bistro at the Gallivant Hotel
Far reaching views beyond the sand dunes towards Camber Sands and the unique landscape of Dungeness form the backdrop to The Gallivant Beach Bistro, a part of The Gallivant ' New England' style Beach House hotel and a welcome addition to the East Sussex & Kent dining scene it is too. The Bistro is light and bright with a blend of natural wood colours and shades of blue which complete the seaside stage for the culinary presentation by chef Trevor Hambley.
Trevor's menu follows the seasons and products are sourced almost exclusively from suppliers within 15 miles radius of the restaurant. Why not kick off with an English sparkling wine cocktail with a bowl of homemade pork scratchings and apple sauce while perusing the menu which might take in potted Rye Bay mackerel with grape mustard and dill or Wealden smoked eel with soused red cabbage followed by baked Rye Bay cod with mountain lentils and vegetable vinaigrette or braised shin of Sussex beef with roasted winter vegetables. Desserts follow the local theme with the likes of apple tart tatin or old Sussex farmhouse cheddar cheese.
Sunday lunch is a family affair with a 2/3 course roast and a special children's menu.
