Review on El Parador
This unassuming neighbourhood bolthole behind Mornington Crescent has been dishing up authentic Spanish tapas for two decades. It doesn't look much from the outside, but it certainly packs in the crowds and buzzes with life: customers pack the cosy dining room and spill out into the secluded garden in fine weather.
The kitchen sends out excellent renditions of the core classics - albondigas, tortillas, patatas bravas - but it's worth a making a beeline for more adventurous dishes such as atun salteado (goujons of tuna with chicory, spinach and olive oil), slow-roast belly pork marinated in fennel seeds and garlic, slices of duck breast with figs and spring onions, and roasted beetroot salad with French beans, pumpkin seeds, ruby chard and goats' cheese.
Santiago tart, cheesecake and rice pudding are offered as desserts, and the compact wine list has plenty of gutsy drinking from Spain and the Med.
